Imagine : A small ,light weight 2 stroke engine with a pusher prop strapped on your back. This being further hooked on to your paraglider. With this combination being able to take off from flat land. No more climbing hills and looking for the right wind direction to fly.
History : The sport of
paramotoring originated in Switzerland and France.
From 1998 - 99 onwards several manufacturers specialised
in this sport and started offering auxiliary engines
for paramotoring.
What do you need : A paraglider, the paramotor, helmet, boots that support the ankle, clothing that breaks the wind and sound proof ear muffs.
Where you can do it : In any field or area without trees, electric wires or other obstacles directly in the line of take off and landing.
Who can do it : Anybody from the age of 17 years and above, physically fit and enthusiastic about wanting to flying.
India Scenario : The sport came to India about 5 years ago and is still in its infancy stage in India, the Indian army has taken up the sport seriously and they run courses for teaching paramotoring to their own personnel. A few individuals are practicing the sport in Pune, Delhi and Bangalore.
Cost : A complete paramotor kit
consisting of a paraglider, engine, harness and
connectors can cost between 4- 5lakhs.
Safety : This is definitely not a "learn it yourself sport".You must take lessons from an instructor. the instructor will not only help you learn quickly but also avoid your getting into wrong habits / practices, your getting hurt / damaging your equipment.
